Jason began his career in EMS in 1993. He has worked in almost every position in EMS to include EMT, Paramedic, Field Training Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, Clinical Manager, Operations Manager and is now the EMS Chief for Schertz EMS. Jason has been with the City since 2006. His undergraduate work was in Emergency Health Science where he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. His graduate work was in Public Administration with a concentration in leadership and financial management where he graduated from the University of Texas Permian Basin with a Masters in Public Administration.  He is married to his beautiful wife Michelle and they have three amazing daughters; Hayden, Morgan and Reagan.

Brandon is a fourth-generation public servant who began his involvement with emergency services in 1994 with Apollo Hose Co. #2 as a volunteer firefighter. He came to Schertz in 2011 and has worked as an EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Field Training Officer, and is currently the Division Chief of Operations for Schertz EMS. He obtained his Paramedic certification in 2011 and went on to continue his education at the University of Texas Health and Science Center in San Antonio where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Health Science. He continued to pursue his Master’s Degree at the American Military University with a major in Emergency Management and graduated in December 2020. Brandon is an avid cyclist and volunteers countless hours to different cycling events across the country. Brandon has 2 children, Marissa and Preston.

EMS SOPs

Mike has been involved in public safety since 1986, starting as a volunteer with Bexar County Fire Corps, Company #4. Since that time, he has worked as an EMT, Firefighter/Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, Deputy Sheriff, PI/Education Coordinator and is currently the Division Chief of Clinical Services for Schertz EMS as well as a Deputy Fire Marshal with Guadalupe County. He completed his undergraduate studies in Emergency Health Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.  His graduate studies were in public administration with an emphasis on emergency management.  He graduated in 2022 from Columbia Southern University with a Master of Public Administration degree.  He is married to his wife Cindy and they have two daughters, Kayla and Kendall.

EMS Protocols

Adriana started with the City of Schertz in February 2021 as the Administrative Assistant. She previously worked in various positions for H-E-B Corporate for 9 years including Customer Relations and Accounting. She grew up in La Vernia and graduated from La Vernia High School. She enjoys traveling, staying active, and spending time with her family. Adriana is married to her husband Joshua, and they have two children, Audrey and Raider. They recently added a new addition to their family, a Goldendoodle named Rex. She enjoys the community involvement and looks forward to her growing career with Schertz EMS.

Dr. Donovan Butter has been the medical director for Schertz EMS and surrounding communities since 1992. He received his Bachelor of Science with honors from Texas State University and Doctorate degree from North Texas State University Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Post graduate training was at Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center and Driscoll Children's Hospital. Board certified in emergency medicine and family medicine as well as undersea and hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Butter has practiced emergency medicine since 1987 and hyperbaric and wound care medicine since 1999. He is currently the medical director at Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills Wound Care Center and the chief of hyperbaric medicine and limb salvage. Previously, Dr. Butter served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio as well as chairman of the Texas EMS Advisory Council to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and was assistant EMS medical director for San Antonio Fire and EMS from 1990 to 1995. Prior to his medical education, Dr. Butter also served as a Paramedic with several EMS systems in Texas and developed a long-standing love and appreciation of our EMS and public service first responders that serve and protect the public welfare. He was the recipient of the Texas EMS Medical Director Award for personal and professional dedication to EMS in Texas in 1994. Dr. Butter is married to his wife Rita and enjoys spending time with family and friends. He is a fifth generation Texan and likes to travel across Texas.
