The Inspection Division is responsible to insure public safety and health to insure safety to property from fire and other hazards through permitting and inspections. The Inspection Division issues permits to any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move demolish, or change, or change the occupancy of a building or structure; or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system. The Engineering and Public Works Departments work closely together and issue permits for construction work proposed within existing and future rights-of-way or easements, clearing and grading on public or private property, and any work within a regulated floodplain.
The Schertz Police Department is responsible for issuing permits for audible alarms for residents and businesses and also for those individuals wishing to solicit within the city limits. In addition to these permits, Code Enforcement is responsible for issuing permits for food establishments, mobile and temporary food vendors, pool permits and foster adoption permits. Animal Services issues permits for guard or sentry dogs and animal establishment permits.
