Schertz Raises Awareness for Heatstroke Prevention

The City of Schertz is partnering with Safe Kids San Antonio (SKSA) and Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) to raise awareness on the dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles. The city is hosting a large, mobile temperature display outside of the Schertz City Hall Complex to demonstrate how rapidly a car heats up in direct sunlight. The thermometer display is scheduled to launch on National Heatstroke Prevention Day, July 31, and display through August 7.

Never Leave Your Child Alone in a Car, an education and awareness campaign geared toward parents and caregivers, launched in May 2017 and aims to prevent tragic and unnecessary deaths due to heatstroke. The campaign will continue from Memorial Day through Labor Day. National Heatstroke Prevention Day is held on July 31 to draw attention to the high temperatures felt by all throughout the summer. More information regarding the Safe Kids Worldwide campaign can be found at https://www.safekids.org/heatstroke.
