Command Staff



The Schertz Police Command Staff consists of the Offices of the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, Uniform Services Lieutenant, the Support Services Lieutenant and Investigations Lieutenant. The Command Staff is responsible for the implementation of Policy and overall administration of the Department.


Chief of Police Michael Hansen



Chief Michael Hansen began his law enforcement career in 1978.  His last assignment was with the City of Conroe Police where he served for 29 years achieving the rank of Assistant Chief for that rapidly growing city and department of 150+ employees.


Chief Hansen was fortunate to have been provided many opportunities during his career.  Besides his many years in patrol and crime scene investigations some of his other assignments included; motorcycles, field training, accident investigations, SWAT team, scuba dive team, physical fitness coordinator and honor guard.  He supervised such units as bicycle patrol, K-9 unit, reserves, dispatch, records, and the training academy.


He spearheaded projects that resulted in the implementation of a mobile incident command vehicle, basic police officers academy, integrated dispatch and records management system and trunked radio system.


Chief Hansen is dedicated to public service.  He has been a regular instructor at colleges and police academies on topics such as community policing, ethics, history, patrol procedures, SWAT, scuba, crime scene investigation, problem solving and firearms.  Chief Hansen has been a PADI scuba instructor and course director since 1990.


Chief Hansen holds a Masters Certification, certified firearms instructor and certified crime prevention specialist from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.


His undergraduate work was in business administration and management.  He holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University.  He is also a graduate of the 184th session of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and the 54th session of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College.


Chief Hansen is a member of both International and Texas Associations of Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Association and the SHSU Alumni Association.  He has regularly severed on the boards for charitable and youth sports organizations.


Chief Hansen is married to his best friend Kimberly and they have three children; Lisa, Emily and Devin.

Assistant Chief of Police Marc Bane



Assistant Chief of Police Marc Bane has served the City of Schertz since 1992. He first started with the Schertz Volunteer Fire Department and then joined the Schertz Police Department in 1996. Over his 18 years with the police department, Assistant Chief Bane has served in many positions, which include supervisory roles within the Patrol, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, School Resource, Community Projects, SWAT, K-9, Reserves, Communications and Records Divisions.


Assistant Chief Bane is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), the FBI Command College and a member of the Texas Association of Chiefs of Police. He holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, as well as being a certified TCOLE Instructor. Assistant Chief Bane is also a founding member of the Schertz Chamber of Commerce.

Lieutenant Manny Casas- Uniform Services Division

Lt. Manny Casas has proudly served with the Schertz Police Department for more than 15 years. During this time, Lt. Casas has held several leadership positions within the department’s Patrol and Investigations Divisions, advancing through the ranks from officer, to Corporal and to a Sergeant. As a Lieutenant, he is currently assigned to command the Uniform Services Division and oversee its operations and personnel.


Throughout his professional career, Lt. Casas has been an integral part of the department having served as a SWAT operator, an Accident Reconstructionist and a Detective.


Lt. Casas is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Command College (LEMIT) class #75. He maintains a Masters Peace Officer Certificate and is also a certified TCOLE Instructor. Lt. Casas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and a Master’s of Arts degree in Education.
