Place 3 Councilmember

George Antuna, Jr. is the City of Schertz Place 3 Councilmember. Appointed in August 2010 to fill an unexpired term and then elected in 2012, he currently serves on the boards of the San Antonio-Bexar County MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization), the Lone Star Commuter Rail District, and the Texas Lyceum.

 

Most recently, he served on the Guadalupe County Child Advocacy Center board, Workforce Solutions Alamo board and Guadalupe Valley Electric Coop Information Committee. He is also very involved with the Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD, and other political and charitable organizations within Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties.

 

In June of 2010, George Antuna, Jr. ventured back into the private sector in the insurance and financial services industry. However, from January 2007 through June 2010, Mr. Antuna served as the Executive Director of Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations for the City of Schertz. He was a candidate for the Texas House of Representatives before joining the city. He also worked for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison as Regional Director for San Antonio, South Central Texas, and El Paso.

 

Prior public service included being Director of Protocol for then Texas Secretary of State, Henry Cuellar; and Policy Analyst of Workforce Development, Economic Development and International Relations for then Lt. Governor Rick Perry. In that capacity, Mr. Antuna attended the historical inauguration of former Mexican President Vicente Fox in December of 2000. Mr. Antuna’s private sector experience includes serving as the Regional Sales Manager for Frito-Lay, North America.

 

Mr. Antuna grew up in San Antonio and graduated from South San Antonio High School. He then attended San Antonio College from 1986 to 1988 before transferring to the University of Texas at San Antonio where he graduated in 1991 with a BBA in Marketing Management.

 

Mr. Antuna’s leisure time involved spending time with family, and golfing when possible. He is involved with the Buffalo Valley Youth Association and has coached baseball and basketball for BVYA team

 

Mr. Antuna lives in Schertz with his wife, the former, Patricia Martinez (also a UT San Antonio graduate), where they are raising three sons (twins – Isaac and Jonathan – 14 and Jorge 7).
