Schertz Mayor Hal Baldwin: A Shining Example of Public Service

The family of Schertz Mayor Hal Baldwin announced he passed away just after 10:00 AM April 6th, 2012 after complications related to previous medical conditions. One of the longest-serving mayors in Texas and a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant who would have turned 77 later this month, passed away in his sleep at San Antonio Military Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Schertz City Manager John Kessel said of Hal: “He leaves a legacy of public service spanning almost 30 years on City Council with 18 years as Mayor. His 40-plus years with the City of Schertz and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District are a testament to his love for this Community.”

Former Schertz City Manager and current Police Chief Don Taylor worked with Mayor Baldwin in various capacities for nearly 15 years. “Hal was one of kind. He dedicated his life to his family, his friends, and his community. We are all the better for having known him.”

Schertz Mayor Pro-tempore David Scagliola said “We ask everyone to keep Barbara and the Baldwin Family in your thoughts and prayers.” Hal is survived by his wife of 55 years, five children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
