Community Car Seat Check
Saturday, September 24, 2022
When it comes to the safety of our children, there are many things we think about including water safety, protecting them from falls, and stranger danger. One of the biggest things for parents to think about is their child's safety when they are a passenger in the vehicle. A child's age, weight, and height all play a factor when determining the correct child seat to use. Therefore, it is essential to keep up to date with all current laws, regulations, and suggestions.
Did you know that more than half of car seats are installed incorrectly? As a result, car crashes are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to a child. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the use of child car safety seats in passenger vehicles, when used correctly, reduces the risk of death by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers ages 1 to 4 years.
September 18-24 is Child Passenger Safety Week, and the Schertz Police Department would like to help our community ensure their car seats are safely installed to protect your most adorable and precious cargo.
If you need help with your child's seat, on Saturday, September 24, the Schertz Police Department is teaming up with other local police departments and state agencies to host a FREE community car seat check event. Each person from these agencies is a National Child Passenger Safety Technician. The event will be from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in front of the Community Playscape at 629 Westchester Dr and is by appointment only.
If you cannot make it to the event, call and make an appointment with Officer Anna Kraft at (210) 619-1264.
