The City’s number one concern is the health of the public and our employees and is at the center of all of our decisions. In an effort to practice social distancing and minimize the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the City of Schertz will be canceling programs and activities, and continue with the closure of City facilities until further notice in cooperation with the Governor’s Executive Order GA14. The City will re-evaluate its position as the situation evolves. As a reminder, the facilities that are closed are the Schertz Civic Center; park pavilions, playgrounds, restrooms, and water fountains; Schertz Public Library; Schertz Senior Center; Schertz Recreation Center; and Schertz Aquatics Center. Additionally, we believe that limiting staff interaction with the public is crucial at this point and as such, lobby doors at all City facilities will be closed except the Police Department. The drive-through window will continue to be open at City Hall.
Residents are strongly encouraged to conduct city business online, by email, or by phone. Please note that as we transition these non-essential operations customers may experience longer wait times. We appreciate your patience as we work through this unprecedented situation.

Currently, we are limiting the amount of walk-in traffic in and out of the Animal Adoption Center. With these precautions in place, we anticipate fewer than normal adoptions and we are asking for assistance from individuals, volunteers, rescues, and organizations to help foster, rescue or adopt the great animals we have in our shelter. If you are interested in adopting an animal, please do not come directly to the shelter, but instead, go to the Petfinder website.
If you see a stray animal, please call us first. We ask that you not pick it up, take it to your home, or bring it to the shelter; we will dispatch an Animal Services Officers to come to get it. For more information go to the Animal Services main page or call (210) 619-1500.
