UPDATE: March 25, 2020

Last night, the Schertz City Council approved an ordinance to extend the disaster and public health emergency declaration issued by Mayor Ralph Gutierrez until Tuesday, April 14 at 11:59 p.m.

Schertz Mayor Ralph Gutierrez has issued a public health emergency and disaster declaration prohibiting mass gatherings of 10 or more people in accordance with the Executive Order issued by Governor Greg Abbott on March 19, 2020. This declaration goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on March 20, 2020 and will continue for seven (7) days, unless continued or renewed by the City Council of Schertz.

“I have issued a Declaration of Disaster and Public Health Emergency to elevate the City’s response to COVID-19 and in support of the Executive Order issued by Governor Greg Abbott. This virus threatens the lives of our community and we must act now to protect and minimize the effect on our first responders, healthcare workers, and medical facilities," stated Mayor Gutierrez.

The declaration prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people and will limit business operations as the City continues to encourage the public to practice social distancing. At the advice of public health agencies and the Texas Governor’s Office these steps are necessary for the prevention, containment, and slowing the spread of this virus.

Mayor Gutierrez reiterates, “Swift and decisive action is essential during this time so that do not overwhelm our healthcare system to a detrimental degree. We are stronger when we work together and together we will overcome this challenge. With the Lord’s blessing, our community will get through this."
