Dear Residents:

As you may have heard, cases of swine flu have been reported and confirmed in Guadalupe County.  The attention devoted to cases at Byron P. Steele High School, as well as those in Mexico, California, and New York are the subject of much debate and concern by local, State, and Federal officials.  We have decided that our best course of action is to encourage our residents to adhere to suggestions from the Texas Department of State Health Services and, if possible, refrain from public gatherings.  Moreover, we need ask that you monitor your health and the health of your family, and stay informed of public health announcements.

Health officials say everyone should follow standard precautions to reduce the spread of any respiratory illness.

  • Stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others.

  • Cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues.

  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Schertz, Cibolo, and the leaders of Guadalupe County have chosen to take this proactive approach to keep any adverse affects to the community at a minimum.  Please tune in to your local news networks for any additional information.  You can also learn more about the swine flu at the following places:

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us be as proactive as possible and making sure that we are all doing our part to prevent this flu from spreading further.

Sincerely,
