It was National Night Out October 6th and Schertz residents came out in droves to support safe neighborhoods and have a good time. Area Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue, and EMS personnel were on hand to visit with neighbors and promote safe communities in an effort to bring down crime.
The National Night Out is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and was held in cities across Texas. This year market the 26th anniversary of the event.
Mayor Hal Baldwin and members of the Schertz City Council, including John Trayhan, Jim Fowler, and David Scagliola, along with city management and staff divided up the town attended as many activities and celebrations as was possible in a three hour period. According to Schertz Police Department Special Projects Officer Shawn Ceeko over two dozen neighborhoods in Schertz held publicized activities, not including the block and house parties that seemed to be on every street.
