Emergency Medical Services

Welcome to the City of Schertz EMS web page!

Schertz EMS is a department of the City of Schertz that provides Emergency Medical Services and ambulance transportation to the greater Randolph Region. We began as a volunteer group of local citizens who responded to help their neighbors. The organization, known as the Schertz Area Facility for Emergency Services or SAFES began operations on April 1, 1974 providing ambulance services to Schertz and the surrounding area. This organization grew, matured and eventually became a full-time paid department within the city and was renamed to Schertz EMS on October 1, 2000.

Schertz EMS currently operates four (4) Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) ambulances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We employ 24 full-time paramedics, 15 part-time paramedics and 5 part-time EMT-Intermediates who respond to over 7,000 requests for emergency services annually across our coverage area of over 220 square miles.

We respond from four separate stations located in Schertz (2), Universal City and Marion.

We provide this service to eight cities:
Schertz
Universal City
Cibolo
Live Oak
Selma
Garden Ridge
Marion
Santa Clara

We also provide service to unincorporated portions of three counties:
Guadalupe
Comal (Comal County ESD #6)
Bexar County

In Guadalupe County, Schertz EMS is the contracted provider for EMS across the entire county. We sub-contract with three separate agencies to assist us in providing this service across the entire county (Seguin Fire/EMS; San Marcos/Hayes County EMS; Luling EMS)

We transport our patients to their facility of choice if at all possible. We bill patient's insurance for our services if we are provided with that information. If a patient does not have insurance, we work with them on a structured payment plan to assist in paying for our services.

In addition to providing high quality EMS transport, we also are available to provide a wide variety of public education courses and demonstrations such as CPR, First Aid and EMT-Basic training.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. We can be reached during business hours at 210-619-1400.

If you are having any type of medical problem, please do not hesitate to call 911.
