It is the desire of Schertz Animal Services to find a forever home for all adoptable animals. Sometimes, we are not able to achieve that goal through our adoption facility. It may become necessary to reach out to other organizations to help with these animals. To that end, we want to ensure that any rescue, humane society, or similar organization that we partner with is able to meet the animal care and treatment standards set forth by the State of Texas and the Texas Department of State Health Services. The policies below are what we follow to ensure the best future for the animals in our care.
- Schertz Animal Services typically does not transfer animals to rescues, humane societies, and similar organizations until the animals have had at least 15 working days to be adopted from Schertz Animal Adoption Center. Those 15 days begin on the first day that the animal has completed the vetting process and has been deemed ready for adoption by the shelter management.
- To be considered for partnership, an organization must fill out an application. In addition, Schertz Animal Services will perform an initial site visit, make follow-up site visits, and/or check with veterinarians and animal control services in their area of operation.
- Approval of applying organizations will be based on proof of proper animal containment, proper shelter provided for the animals, cleanliness, ability to care for medical needs of the animals, a good relationship with one or more veterinarians, and ability to find permanent homes for the animals taken into their care.
