Wilenchik's Walk for Life
Saturday, March 2, 2019
Samuel Clemens High School (rear parking lot, please enter from Elbel Rd)
There are moments in the course of a lifetime when we are forced to face the unimaginable. An unexpected turn of events can cause upheaval to normal day-to-day life, leaving with it a question which one cannot deny asking: why me? Those are two words Schertz City Councilman Tony Wilenchik refused to ask but, nonetheless, were inescapable.
Tony was diagnosed in 2004 with Stage-4 Leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer, and given six to nine months to live. Tony's determination to face the disease head-on helped the City create a fund-raising event to help research cures for cancer. In 2009, the City hosted the inaugural Wilenchik Walk for Life event. Through 2018, more than $170,000.00 has been raised and donated to the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center (formerly UT Health San Antonio and CTRC) to aid in their research.
The 2019 event will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019. Businesses are invited to create teams.
