[ARCHIVED] Mark Browne Appointed as Schertz City Manager

New City Manager

Following an extensive search for the best candidate to lead the City of Schertz forward, Schertz City Council has appointed Dr. Mark Browne as its new City Manager. The announcement and unanimous vote occurred following council’s Closed Session at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Browne, who currently serves as the City Manager for Alamo Heights, is scheduled to report to work in Schertz early January 2019.

“I am genuinely excited to have Dr. Mark Browne join us as our new City Manager. It was his unique combination of experience as a City Manager, his military career, and his educational background that we as a council felt made him the best candidate for the City. He will bring the right skills to the table that will help us to continue to be a successful, vibrant and relevant City into the foreseeable future,” commented Schertz Mayor, Michael Carpenter.

Browne, began his career in municipal government as City Manager for Terrell Hills in 2005 and has served as City Manager in Alamo Heights for the past seven years. Prior to his municipal experience, he served 27 years in the United States Air Force and retired at the rank of Colonel. He holds a Doctorate of Public Administration from the University of Alabama, is an Adjunct Professor at Wayland Baptist University and has served as a speaker on city management with the Urban Management Assistants of South Texas.

Browne commented, “I am very excited to accept the position of City Manager for the City of Schertz! It is a dynamic, growing, awesome city and I am super motivated to join the Schertz team. I know that the staff is dedicated and professional, and it is an organization that has achieved great things and will achieve even greater things in the future. I appreciate the opportunity given to me by the City Council; I really look forward to serving with them and helping them achieve their goals. I am also looking forward to meeting the citizens of the community and providing excellent customer service to meet their needs.”

Schertz is a premier Texas community, located just northeast of San Antonio, nationally recognized for its family atmosphere, foresight and innovation, and commitment to economic prosperity and workforce opportunities. The City of Schertz serves over 40,000 residents and over 700 businesses in various capacities.
