[ARCHIVED] Schertz Revises Mask Policy for City Facilities

At the April 6 City Council meeting, city leaders received direction and support on changes to the City's Mask Policy. Effective April 7, City Staff and the public visiting city facilities will no longer be required to wear a mask EXCEPT for in the following buildings - Schertz Public Library, Schertz Senior Center, and during the Vaccine Clinics held at the Schertz Civic Center. These particular facilities have a high traffic volume of folks coming throughout the day and/or have the vulnerable population entering to receive vaccines. Additionally, temperature checks will no longer be required when entering a city building except for those previously mentioned. The City continues to encourage everyone to follow social distance practices and good hygiene practices (handwashing, covering mouth when sneezing, etc.).

The rationale for this change is that there are only 16 cases of COVID in Schertz at the current time, hospitalization rates are low and have been low for several weeks (current hospitalization rate for the San Antonio area for COVID is 3.4%).  Similarly, testing positivity rates continue to remain low. All of these numbers support this change.
