During these extremely cold temperatures, it’s important to remember the 4 Ps: People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants. Bring your pets and plants indoors, check on family and neighbors to make sure they are taking precautions, and wrap any exposed outdoor pipes to protect them from the cold. If using portable heaters indoors make sure to keep them on a solid surface and at least 3 feet from anything that can burn, including furniture, carpets, curtains, and people. Keep them out of the way of foot traffic, away from children, and always turn off and unplug when leaving a room or going to bed. Never use generators, grills, camp stoves, or similar devices indoors as heating.
With the extreme cold temperatures, residents should prepare for potential power outages.
