Fire Chief, Kade Long will be retiring from the City of
Schertz effective June 30, 2022. He joined the City of Schertz in August 2015 as the Assistant
Fire Chief and was promoted to Fire Chief in 2017.
“We are sad to be losing an outstanding professional in Kade Long,” commented City Manager,
Dr. Mark Browne. “He has been an excellent Fire Chief for the City of Schertz and is going to be
missed for his experience and leadership. One of his many accomplishments for the City was
proactively ensuring that Schertz qualified as a COVID vaccination clinic and did a fantastic job
organizing and leading our clinics which vaccinated 35,000 people across the region. We wish
Kade all the best in his future endeavors.”
During Chief Long’s career in Schertz, he oversaw the design, construction, and opening of Fire
Station 3 from beginning to end. He also implemented new practices across the department that
have improved response times. More recently he helped lead the City’s response during the
COVID-19 pandemic and eventually oversaw the operations of the COVID-19 vaccination
clinics.
Chief Long has dedicated his career to serving others and has spent 27 years in public service
with 24 of those years being in the fire service. Long first joined the fire service with
Duncanville as a firefighter. He also went on to serve with the Vernon Fire Dept. before joining
the team in Schertz.
Fire Chief, Kade Long commented, “I am humbled to have finished my career with such a great
team. The team has been very supportive of me over the past several years including during our
COVID response which was one of our most challenging times. Schertz Fire Rescue has
delivered for our citizens time and time again and it has been one of my greatest life
achievements to have led such an outstanding organization.”
