Calling all humans! We are looking for people to be "human books" for our Human Library event in July. If you've ever felt misunderstood or discriminated against, and you would like a chance to clarify perceptions or misconceptions about your experience or identity, we invite you to be a human book! If you have a story of a life changing journey or experience that has shaped your life, we would love to hear that too. The purpose of the Human Library is to bring people together who may have never talked otherwise. Readers will listen to a book's story, ask questions, chat, and then go to the next book.
What is a human book?
Human books are people who are willing to talk with "readers" about their experiences, perspectives, values, and beliefs. Books may be checked out by readers for up to 30 minutes of respectful conversation.
What is The Human Library?
The Human Library is an international organization and movement that first started in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2000. It aims to address people's prejudices by helping them to talk to those they would not normally meet.
What are the requirements for signing up as a Human Book?
Just fill out our application by May 1st. Our committee will decide if you are potential candidate. All human books will be required to attend a short training session that will be held in May. Human books will also need to be available for our Human Library event at the Schertz Public Library from 1-5pm on Sunday, July 16th.
