1. Is this Insurance?

This is not insurance; however, it works much like insurance. This plan simply allows you to know if you ever need EMS services, the out-of-pocket costs for that service will be greatly reduced.

2. Do I receive a membership card?

Yes, a membership card will be provided as soon as your membership is processed. This card is for your records and will not be needed to take advantage of the benefits of this plan. All of your membership information will be entered in our billing software, so if you are transported, we will know immediately that you are a member and your benefits will be credited to your account. You will NOT need to show your membership card for the services to be covered. 

3. If I move from the Schertz EMS service area, can I get a refund?

The membership fee is for the calendar year and is non-refundable.

4. Is there a deadline?

NO. Our membership plan is designed with an unlimited open enrollment period. This means you can join at any time. All membership will begin on January 1 of the current calendar year or at one-minute past the midnight on the day following when your membership is received, whichever is later. After our initial enrollment period is completed on February 28, the membership fee will be prorated throughout the remainder of the calendar year on a month to month basis. ALL Passport to Care memberships expire at 11:59 PM on December 31.

5. What if I am transported on January 15th, can I send in my payment on the 16th and receive the discount?

No, the membership plan does not cover you until one-minute past midnight the day after your payment is received. 

6. What is the definition of dependent?

Any member of your family living in your house that you claim as a dependent on your IRS taxes.

7. I have Medicaid, can I join?

NO, by Texas Law Medicaid recipients are not eligible to join an ambulance membership plan or receive the benefits of an ambulance plan.

8. What if I call another ambulance company other than Schertz EMS for a non-emergency transport?

At this time, only 911 transports by Schertz EMS are covered.

9. What if Schertz EMS is busy and another EMS agency responds?

Our plan is to reimburse the mutual aid agency for the copay or 50% reduction so that you, our member, will still enjoy the benefits of this plan.

10. What if I am transported by a helicopter called by Schertz EMS?

Our plan does not cover helicopter transport however, Schertz EMS works diligently to ensure that we only use these resources as an absolute necessary.
